temp guage not working

I just installed a new gauge cluster and I shorted something out. Now my temp gauge is not reading anything. Any suggestions?

Find the temp guage sensor on the engine block. It should have one wire coming out of the top. Turn the key on, and ground the temp sensor wire. The temp guage should swing all the way to one side. Then take the temp sensor wire off ground, and let it hang in the air. The guage should swing the opposite way. If it does, then your temp sensor is bad. If the above test doesn't work, then looks like you did burn something up in the cluster.

I used a test light on the sensor and it lit up. I tried grounding the wire connected to the sensor with the engine running, and the sensor did not move. I even replaced the temp guage sensor and still nothing. What should I try next?
