Hello
I have a couple of qeustions about ford rear ends. Are the limited slips reliable or do the clutchs in them go out quit often? I have 3L55 9.75 on the axle tag
and h9 on the door tag.
thanks for any help i canget
As long as there are no defects and the fluids are chaged out per factory recommendations they'll last easily over 100K miles... Every once in a while, like all manufacturers, you'll find a set that goes bad for no good reason.
I think Ford makes better diffs, and that includes limited slips, than the OBs. I do know that they have the best front drive in the 4X4s. Up here we have a saying. If you are going in the north woods with a 4X4 and want it to bring you back out - take a Ford. (this is assuming that the trail isn't sized for a Honda 4 wheeler, Ha!)
Thanks for the input guys. I was just wandering because my truck seems to shutter orfeels like it drags alittle when you first take off? I dont feel it going down the road
it runs and drives great. Except for take off. It is driving me nuts i cant figure the problem out. If anyone has any input i would really appreciate it thanks.
Like I said, Lee, every now and then a bad set of clutches finds its way in to the rear. Another thought: If the rear has ever had the fluids changed and a friction modifier was not added the clutches will chatter and vibrate. Dragging can be caused by any number of spots in the drive train. Why are you thinking it's the rear?
A clutch problem in the rear diff will only show up on corners, not taking off in a straight line, unless you're spinning the tires. In a straight line the clutches are just sitting there, not doing anything.
I first started noticing the problem when iturned a corner. Then i started noticing it when i take off strait. If i let the truck roll alittle bit i dont notice it at all. One of the guys I work with said the brake was hanging up. I just happen to have the pads for the rear. So i changed them and they seemed to be releasing when i had one of my boyswork the brake peddle for me. Thanks for the replys.
