[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-Nov-02 AT 10:18 PM (EST)]OK, I was wondering if anyone have any suggestions as whether I should get a Banks 61 HP chip (from the Stinger kit) or a Superchips microtuner for my '97 F250HD PSD. I don't know how the performance of these two compare, as i cant find anyone that has done a comparison. Any insight would be helpful.
thanks!
You mean the Ottomind? Where did the 61 HP number come from? They claim 68HP with the entire Stinger system. If the 61 HP number is correct, then their exhaust system only gives 7 HP. I think the number is lower than 61 HP for the chip. You won't get 61 HP from that chip on a 97 -- the downpipe is too restrictive. Same goes with the Superchips Microtuner. The low setting won't give you 60HP due to the downpipe. The high setting will exceed it though.
I talked to Banks, adn i would basically be getting the downpipe and the chip from the stinger kit (the rep told me 61 HP) without the air filter and trans programmer since i already have a trans kit and exhaust and K&N fitler. so either way, i will get a banks downpipe, and was just wondering whether i should go ahead and get the banks chip or the superchips tuner.
thanks
If you're getting a down pipe you'll get more out of a Superchips microtuner. You can set it to either the high or low setting depending on your load, plus you get the code reader. Of course, I am, like them, biased so you'll do good to check out the results others have had here. You'll find great results from both products --- I can't knock Banks, they make good stuff but you pay a premium for less horsepower.
I have a 97 F350 Crew Cab SRW 7.3L PSD and just tuned with the Micro Tuner.
WOW!
I never expected a 6800 lb (with tool boxes, tools, ladder rack, and big boned me ) diesel truck to have the acceleration to bury me back into the seat like it does now. The performance difference is TRULY impressive.
I can't wait to take it to the drag strip and get some stock and tuned run time comparisons. Yes I'll post them here when I do. I might just challenge my son to a race in his Camaro.
Ken, count me as a very satisfied customer and fan of the SCMT
look into the WD (Western Diesel) chip, it is 50hp/100tq. Not only that but it bumps your shift points up by approx. 400 rpm to get you off higher in the torque curve.
I had one on a '97 250 HD diesel - it is a fine chip at $475.
$475 !?!!? Good giggly wiggly someone is overcharging!!!!! Try this and you'll be shocked at how much you could saved with a 3 stage Diablo chip: http://motorhaven.autoanything.com/instantquote.html or here
http://motorhaven.autoanything.com/cgi-bin/Web_store/webshop.cgi?&product=superchips for the savings on two program Superchips microtuner.
