Oil pump, fuel system mods??

Has anyone on the forum went with a HPOP? Lift pump for the fuel system? I have heard these mods will enhance my chip (banks big hoss, six gun.....I am getting a superchip or DP tuner). I also am interested in getting some 50-75 horse injectors. Any suggestions, testimonies?

What do you want from your Ex, power-wise? What is your ultimate goal, performance-wise? How much are you wanting spend? What do you use your Ex for?

You need to do a lot of homework before just buying big buck power mods for your Ex, bro.

For instance, I had planned on going with a WSOP QSSB turbo Product View , a set of 530 hybrid injectors with .007 nozzles Stage IV "530" Injectors , and Joey's Terminator HPOS Terminator HPOS2 .

But that would have entailed a lot of peripheral modifications in order to keep my truck running safely and smoothly, plus it would have been extremely expensive.

I've since decided to go with a set of new AC code injectors Stage II Single Shot Injectors because I don't need a HPOS to run them, will need less peripheral mods, plus I can continue to use my OEM turbo while I save money to get a Garrett BB or Turbonetics turbo. I'll be saving a ton of cash, but will have a nicely hopped up, much better performing vehicle that can still tow the crap out of my trailers.

Do a ton of research in the 7.3L forum. Figure out what you want for your Ex first, before deciding on the mods you want.

Doing my homework

After doing my homework ( I am still working at it) I feel the same way you do. I just want to open the motor up, and let it go! I feel like it is so restricted. I get on it and it seems like it is starving for more. I am going to let a guy look at my excursion at the end of the month. He is located in Oregon City, OR. His business name is Ford Powerstroke Specialists. He is going to do an analysis on my set up. He says it takes 3 hrs. He has the ability to change settings internally in my PCM. I talked to him about the HPOP's, fuel lift pumps. He just laughed!!! He said he could change the flow rate to 125 gallons of diesel an hour. Tweak the shifts points in my tranny, etc. Basically find out what it's doing and how far he can tweak the PCM. He also is suggesting I ditch all of my banks stuff and go with the DP tuner, stage II injectors (like what you did), and run my stock turbo. I will let you know what this guy says. Pretty interesting guy. Obviousely a Powerstroke fanantic.

I like him already! LOL!

One item in your equation you have to worry about that I don't, is you have PMR rods, where I have forged rods. So while the PMR's are OK, they will become a weak link you'll need to address if you decide to really up your power levels.

I did it!

I ordered the DP Tuner today. Jody is going to set me up with the same options on his wife's excursion. I can't remember what all the settings were though. I think there going to be 6 files, 60 hp econo, 80 hp freeway, 80 hp city (that is what he called them), 120 hp race, 140 hp aggressive, and 1200 rpm idle. I asked him about the PMR's. He said it would be fine if we drove it "respectfully"......that is if my wife drives it. ITP diesel has a WOP 7.3 Main Girdle kit. Is that what you mean by building up the bottom end of the motor? So, by getting the DP tuner, I will keep my six gun tuner as my gauges and turn the power level to the lowest setting. Pretty cool suggestion, I thought. I have a banks big hoss, burned at 120hp extreme and a banks transcommand for sale if anyone wants it.

Building the bottom end usually refers to the weak link, aka the connecting rods.

The cranks are usually good for gobs of power, more than any of us non-racers would ever need worry about, so the bottom end usually refers to the rods, bearings, and pistons.

That kit you're talking about at ITP Diesel would fall in the category I referenced in my earlier post known as peripheral mods.

As would this item, Product View and this item, 7.3L Head Studs and this item, ITP 7.3L "Standard" Regulated Return Kit etc.

Although, that regulated return kit is arguably something ALL 7.3L PSD's should have, regardless of their power levels. Stock or modified, it's a GREAT setup.
