so i take it we should use a clay bar then a cleaner wax then a carnuba wax, and then use a polish to keep it shiny between re-waxing with carnuba.wow thats alot of work!lol!
A cleaner wax does some of the same things a polish does - just in less steps. Between wax jobs you can use a quick detailer to keep up the shine. And I wouldn't recommend claying all the time - only when you need it - it is a little abrasive.
Wow, only 1 person uses Caruba ???
Thee is a detail shop in San Fran and is the only place I can get this stuff, Clay , polish and Carnuba, simply better than anystuff Ive ever use, after the clay my hood feels lik a babys bottom.
Carnauba gives the best & deepest shine - no doubt about it. Does it last as long as the polymer stuff? (Zaino, etc) - I would say no.
But as you point out - the key is the paint prep. You need to do the appropriate clay/polish bit to get the paint into ideal shape, then wax. Otherwise, the wax - primarily a protectant - will seal in all sorts of junk. If you prep the paint correctly, the results are so much better - but that is where most of the work comes in.
I use 5 Star Shine. I put it on my dad's new truck this past weekend and it looks/feels amazing! It's been on my car for a year now. Here are some other user review links. There is a discount code I used on the nicoclub.com homepage.
No, I've never heard of overwaxing ( and I know some guys who wax weekly). If you use Mequiar's Gold class, it has cleaners in the wax to clean off some of the old wax. I wax about every two weeks with a DA polisher and have yet to have a problem
I just got a new truck...so I don't have problems with oxidation.
Maguires will turn your molding and any plastic parts white...so you need to be careful. I switched to the new Turtle car wax (green bottle) that has recently been advertised on TV and it goes on easy and comes off easy...also no white marks! Shine is just as good as Maguires Gold. Its so easy in fact that I can wax my entire truck in under an hour by hand, so I do it often (neighbors think I'm nuts). Turtle also offers a detail spray which is awesome as well. I use this to do touch ups. I also found the detail spray to work wonders on the chrome (no streaks whatsoever) and my polished aluminum wheels.
On factory new vehicles with clear coat finishes, do you have to wait a certain amount of time to allow the paint to fully cure before waxing? I understand that the new paints are cured at the factory, but don't they still release some gases for some time? Or should it be waxed fairly soon to protect the new paint?

What's the name of that Turtle wax? It must come off pretty easy to do it in an hour.
How do you get that white stuff off of the plastic? I have tried scrubbing it with a towel and it is tough to get off. Do I need a cleaner or just a toothbrush and elbow grease?

The key is to get a large applicator...Clean terry cloth towel takes it right off leaving a super shine.
The detail spray is awesome...great on chrome and polished aluminum...seriously good, give it a try..just spray some on a clean t-shirt removes bugs and leaves a streak free shine. I used to use black magic chrome wipes, but they would always leave a streak that I would have to rub out...no need with the turtle detail spray...
The name escapes me right now...I am at work or I would look for you...but its in a green bottle. I use the liquid.
As far as removing white marks....I am going to try a soft toothbrush with the detail spray and see how it works.

Mr.Clean eraser pads and drafting pencil erasers are my weapons of choice. I've used Mother's back to black, but it seemed to only cover the wax. I've also heard of using a toothbrush dipped in water and Dawn works.
