can anyone out there tell me the best way to hunt down a vacuum leak? i have been told i have a leak on my 85 f-250 4x4 with a 351w. i recently put on a new holley truck avenger carb. i have heard of using a bottle of water with some soap in it, but that didn't do a thing, and i found no changes in how the engine ran. the truck runs, but not well. it takes a while to get the truck idling, without me having to rev the engine. thanks for any imput
the soap thing works if the air is blowing and not sucking (it makes bubbles) there a tool you can get that uses smoke to find leaks or even a mechanics stethiscope thingy will work to.
I would be glad to give you a detailed guide to search for leaks, but since I'm just getting back from a week off it has left me with too much to do. I have given this same advice to others in the recent past so you should be able to find my postings if you do a search on vacuum leaks in this forum, the carb forum, and the 460 engine forum.
