Rotella-T is what I use, many do. The important thing is to keep it clean by changing often and use the correct grade. If you do that it probably doesn't make much difference. Some like me get oil at Wall-Mart. The reason I do is not to squabble over a few cents but is disposal. I get my oil at Wall-Mart and take the old oil back next trip. They let me dump the used oil into their waste oil tank in the automotive service bay. I don't even have to buy it there, but fair is fair. I appreciate them being so pleasant about taking the old oil in.

Regards

As long as it is the correct grade. I have never seen the 15W-40 Motorcraft oil at Wally's. The 5W-30 or whatever is not the right stuff for the PSD. Motorcraft oil is made for Ford, not by Ford anyway. Delo, Delvac or Rotella, you can't go wrong with those.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Nov-02 AT 02:37 PM (EST)]I'm a senior offshore production mechanic. We have been using Rotella in our industrial engines for years. Of course we don't use a multi grade. We mostly use plain 40 Wt. We change the oil in our engines at 720 Hrs plus we do oil analysis at each oil change and in between if we suspect a problem. At one time we even went to a 1500 Hr oil change in our engines that were light to medium loaded. Anyway our engines look like new on the inside when inspections are done. There is never any sludge build up with the Rotella oil. Wear always appears to be normal. Some of our gas compressor packages (many powered with Waukesha V-12 7042 GSI engines, some with Cat 3600 series engines,) are leased from third party companies. With these packages most third party companies send their own mechanics out to do major inspections such as quarterly, semi-annual or annuals. I've heard many time after the inspection was complete that how clean the engine was internally.
I've been a senior mechanic in the Gulf of Mexico for 20 years and I can not think of one engine failure related to Rotella oil. Altho we have not always used Rotella. Once we used Delvac oil. (I'm not going to mention the manuafacture name) We did have some engine failures related to this oil.
This is one of the things that sold me on using Rotella oil in my PSDs.

How much Aeroshell Grade 120 does that radial engine burn per hour?
