I buy my Rotella at Walmart too and the price has been $5.89+/- per gallon for awhile.
I have yet to catch a sale on it.
Best price on Motorcraft #1995 filter is Walmart as well.
Has anyone ever checked out this oil through independant testing facilities? Before you get excited about Wal Mart sales do some research, it isn't what its cracked up to be. That's why Wal Mart and Sams sells it. Really, check it out....its not the best. $5 a gallon reminds me of a saying..."if something sounds too good to be true it probably is." Not pushing any oil just saying this stuff isn't the best.
Rotella is a Shell Oil product not a Walmart renamed product from an unknown manufacturer. It sounds like you think Rotella is Walmart's store brand of oil.
It exceeds all of the outlined specs from Ford and International and a load of the PSD owners on this site and elsewhere use it.

So, what's wrong with Rotella, and what is the best? And don't say SYNTHETIC, I have run Caterpillar's well over 1,000,000 miles with Rotella, and with a strict maintenance schedule, these engines still look very good internally. I too take oil samples from WORKING diesels and Rotella always seems to do me a good job. If Rotella is no good, I want to know what is so I can switch to something better. I would LOVE to find an even better diesel oil....that way I may be able to get 5,000,000 miles without an out of frame. PLEASE let us know.
If you have an Advanced Auto Parts near by...get there quick!!! The Rotella T 15-40 is on sale until November 30 for $4.48 gallon. I bought all they had and am headed to a couple other stores today.

Did you just arrive on planet earth? Very possibly YOU need to be "checked out." Rotella, Delo and Delvac ARE the leading heavy duty diesel oils with hundreds of millions of miles of testing.

CEE JAY,
You are right on. Rotella is what Caterpillar uses and recommends, rightfully so. The numbers are in and have been far a long time. This guy is blowing smoke, probably a snake oil salesman!

Right on!
Ditto for me too!
I have one Caterpillar C-15 in-particular with 750,000 miles on it. Nothing but Rotella at 10,000 mile intervals. Absolutely beautiful engine inside, and out, so PLEASE tell us your secrets!
If you come back and mention AMSOIL, I will just have to shoot myself.

Gotta love those 550s!!!
Anyone that invests that much money in an engine would only run the best oil.
Thanks for the comment
See you down the road.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Nov-02 AT 05:57 PM (EST)]First of all the Rotella is 4.48 a gal at Advance Auto parts but "not" on sale. This was from the manager at the store. The 5 gal container was 29.92. I said, "Why would I buy a 5 gal and pay for 6?" He said "Huh, what do you mean?" I said never mind and he said he would have more one gal containers Wed of next week.
Oil cap in diesel is 15 quarts....
