I was just looking at this site. and I just realized that FPA headers and stan's headers are exactly the same. Even the part number is the same. The prices on the other hand, well... see for yourself.
I'm not familiar with the fpa headers. However, I know Stan makes his headers in-shop. He gets them cermacoated just down the road. Are the fpa's more or less $ than Stans?
Keep in mind that the -14 part number is the extra thick flange and tubing not the ceramic coated. I'll have to go back and look and see who has the better deal. I just got emailed from FPA and they said that they custom build the headers there and they know how to make them fit up perfect to the edel heads. I did not question him about the Stans headers.
A few years ago I talked to a guy named Stan at FPA about headers for a Tbird. That's when I thought hey, what's up with this? When I asked him about it, I don't recall getting a straight answer but they are connected, I didn't push it.
Hmmm, this is kind of interesting. I'm curious who's are cheaper, Stans or fpa's. I've been to Stans shop in Washington and can vouch that he makes them there. Yet "if" fpa makes them in-shop they can't be the same thing as Stans. But then whats up with the same part numbers? Somethings afoot...
Here's the FPA web site. I didn't see a set for my Mustang at Stan's, but I know a set of FPA's Ceramic coated for my Mustang with a 390FE is $550. This site lists all applications, trucks and cars. Here it is:
"our tri-y for the F series 2 WD with the F.E. engine is std. with 3/8" flanges, 16 gauge and 2 1/2" ball and socket collectors in nickel chrome for $420. A 14 gauge upgrade will set you back $499. If you want ceramic coating, baked and polished , add $200. Shipping is $38 and we offer 3 different flange patterns, 3" ball and socket upgrade and 02 sensors.
Call me for more info."
I just got off the phone with the nice folks at Stan's and the prices on the website are incorrect as of April 1st, and have gone up along with his costs. The other thing I learned was that Stan shows a "racer's price" and a "retail price" on his website. I assumed that since I am not a "racer", I would pay retail. This is not correct. The "racer price" is what you pay, the retail price is what resellers might charge for his headers. So, with that said here is the comparison..
nickle chrome
16 gauge tri y - 3/8 in flange FPA $420 Stan's $390.50
14 gauge tri y - 3/8 in flange FPA $499 Stan's $467.50
Ceramic coated (FPA adds $200, Stan's adds $275)
16 gauge tri y - 3/8 in flange FPA $620 Stan's $665.50
14 gauge tri y - 3/8 in flange FPA $699 Stan's $742.50
I do not have a preference one way or the other for either of these businesses, nor am I affiliated with either of them in any way, shape, manner or form. This is simply a result of the research I did, trying to find out what the differences in price are.
