302 Redline

I just bought a 65 Sunbeam Tiger with a 302. It has headers, freeflow exhaust, solid lifters, 4bbl and a lumpy cam that barely idles at 1200rpm. I don't know what is inside the motor...pistons, rods, crank etc. What should I use as a redline? It pulls strongly to 6000 which is what I've been using as a redline. I know I'm not giving you guys a lot of info to work with so I want to be safe until I get this thing to the dyno. Thanks. Bill

I would say about 6500 before you get into valve float. But if you feel safe with 6, go with it. It may even top out at 7, but you won't know that until your dyno.

You should probably be able to pull 6500 to 7000 well enough, with solid lifters you won't get valve float but I'd stay under 7000. The 302 is strong and will hold up to a lot but it will rap quickly so be careful.

I had a 427 with solids and it redlined at 7000 so I expect your 302 should and if it's got a stout cam it probably has upgraded valve springs so should do 7000 as a top figure.
