I like the feeling of my hair, its not long like mullet long, but its getting there. I think it would be cool to have long hair, but then one day at work i overheard this guy (older gentleman) talking to my manager about how he doesnt like/hire people with long hair cause they look scruffy. my manager was halfway agreeing with him. So i really dont let my hair get too long. and yes, my grandpa (barber for like 5 decades) and my dad, both give me grief about my hair. I think the picture of my wresting coach in college is funny. He doesnt look like he's changed much except he has this major mullet.
Scruffy! Gosh some people make me mad because of the things they say. If a guy is well dressed and has his long hair washed and clean, is he still scruffy? I wouldn't want to work for someone like that. As a society we are eventually going to have to learn to accept people because there are so many different fashions out there such as tatoos, piercings, extreme hairstyles, etc.
I quit cutting my hair in 97 when they made me retire, I really just didn't know how I wanted it cut so I didn't get around to cutting it, I just knew I was tired of military hair cuts. I recently cut it and it is easier to care for, I have thick wavy hair and it gets huge when it's long, I also had a long mustache down to my chin. People at work used to send someone looking for me by telling them to go to the back of surveillance and look for a big guy who looked like a serial killer/mountain man/biker. Since then I've lost the hair, I'm clean shaven and I've lost 40 lbs and it throws some at work as they don't see me much.
I dont' understant why some of you guys said you were descriminated in the 60s and 70s. Didn't everyone have long hair back then? And some of you said it can interfere with your profession. I'm studying to be an auto mechanic. Would I have problems here?
Everybody didn't have long hair in the 60's and 70's but almost everybody wanted to have long hair. Watch the movie Easy Rider sometime and you'll see the hassling that long hairs got in some parts of the US, particularly the South. Rednecks hated long hair back then. Now, they are the long hairs.
I doubt that you'll have any problem getting a job as an auto mechanic because of your long hair, but if you were looking for a job on Wall Street or in Corporate America, you'd be starting out with at least one strike against you.
My hair has never been more than 3-4" long, and that was just on top. It hasn't been more than 2" in about 7 years maybe. I don't mind long hair on guys if they can pull it off. Some people just can't pull it off and it'll look weird. Depends on the person.
