If you get a true HID replacement, you lose the high beam function of your headlights. This of course is not true for HID-look headlights. Just a thought.
HIDs are very hard to find since last August. The NHTSA sent out notices to the manufacturers and distributors informing them of fines as these were never legal. If you can find them, Catz made a great product and even offered high/low beam in some bulb bases. I have them on my SD and love it to death! A solenoid changes the position of the gas lamp which changes it's reflective position and gives you a high beam.
Are you sure about the 2004 NEW BODY STYLE F-150 using Sylvania 9005ST bulbs in the FOG lights?
The owner's manual says to use an H10 Bulb, which to my knowledge, is not yet available....just like the aftermarket 9008 "HID" look alike bulbs which are still not available!!!!
What kind of light does the Sylvania 9005ST bulb produce? Is it a "super white" bluish look like the true HID lamps, or yellow, or what? Is it any brighter than the H10 clear bulbs that come from the factory?
Many thanks for your quick response to my questions.
Fanman2...did a little research on the FOG lights. Check out the following thread link for info on OSRAM/Sylvania. They provide replacement lamps for headlight and fog light applications. I'd like to see the fog lamps in amber. Also, check out Sylvania's offering for "brighter" headlamps (like Silverstar), though they're not HID's.
I doubt that HID's can be used due to the high amperage of HID's; your wires will burn up the first time you turn them on!
i installed a set of hids off of an audi a6, and yes i do not have a high beam headlight but who needs one with these bright a$$ lights. now i just need to find a fog lamp bulb because they look really yellow compared to my headlights.
If you dont mind, what audi model did you use the lights from?
what do I have to do to get these in my truck!
Did you get them from the Audi Dealership?
How much am I looking at ($$$$) to get these Bad A$$ lights?
Thanks in advanced, your reply is greatly appreciated!
YES.....the 9005ST is a Sylvania "silverstar" Halogen bulb.....but I can tell you first hand.....it will NOT, and I repeat will not fit the fog lamp fitting receptacle on the 2004 F-150 trucks. I know this to be true, because I physically tried it!!
I am been running them for about 2 weeks now, no problems, and they are substantially brighter than what I took out. It is also whiter than what was replaced, makes the white lines show up real nice. I had no problems installing them.
not sure what year audi but it was the a6 model possibley an 01, 02. i did not actually buy these but i ended up with them some how . i think they go for about $120 each bulb and about $350 for each ballast from audi. you dont have to actually use this system just try and find some with the ballast that just has 2 wires, one is power and the other one is ground. i would shop the parts dept. of all the dealers that have cars with hids and find the cheapest. try the new body lincoln navi they might have the same size in bulbs as the 04 ford. i also know the 03, 04 G35 coupe bulbs and ballast will work cause i work for Infiniti. lemme know if you need more info. Leroy
i know a lot of the bmw guys were using the setup from the lincold mark VII or whatever it was called. worked great and pretty simple but i think the price has gone up on those parts due to demand. just get the sylvania silverstars pretty nice bulbs.
