how much lift?

ok, well, i have 78 bronco, and i just saw in the classifieds today 4 super swampers w/ 75% tread for 700 including rims, but the rims are a chevy pattern. the guy wants 700 for the set. 36x12.50x15. the rims i have now are 12.50x15. assuming the guy would knock off a couple hundred for not selling the rims with the set....how much lift would be needed to tuck 36's on the bronco? it has 33's on right now, so is 3" ok? or is more needed?

logically 3 inchs should be ok, you could even just do a body lift thats 3 inches or like 100 bucks and they should fit, think about it 33's 3 inchs bigger 3 inchs higher. id sat a 3 inch lift would work

thats what i was "in theory" thinking, i was hoping someone whos tried might have some advice. you would think with 33's, going to 36's would only need 3" lift....but you never know.

and, a friend of mine says he has a buddy who pretty much has a WHOLE lift kit......minus shocks and those parts for a late model bronc, i think its a early 90's.....could i use the coils and blocks, or are they in no way interchangeable....?????

keep in mind that the 36" tires are also 3" wider, so your fenders will have to clear. that may or may not mean that you need more lift than 3". just curious, do you have 33"s on stock suspension? I'm looking at new tires and I've thought about going from 31s to 33s. only problem is I'm stock height, and want to keep it that way if possible. Gotta fit in the garage . If you do have 33s on stock suspension, is it all good? no rubbing?

from what i can tell, my suspension seems to be stock....ie. no body lift, blocks on the leaf springs, or aftermarket springs. i dont rub at all, but im sure 36"s will....

how about 35"s, will those be ok? i was originally looking at getting 35's, but these 36's came up in the paper for (relatively) cheap. thats why i asked.

I always thought at least 6" were needed too fit 35s. Or atleast 6" for enough flex room.

you need 6 inches. on a 4 inch lift 35's would rub if you go off road. So go with a 6 inch

a 4 inch should work. i had 4 inch lift on my 75 f-100 and my new 35x15x15 TSL/SX tires never came close to hitting. i now have a 78 bronco with a 4 inch lift and they fit fine on it too. i plan on doing a 1 inch body lift just for a little more room for rock crawlin.
in my opiniion, all the lift charts that show what tires you can run with them are 2 inches too high. seems how i know for a fact you can fit 33s on a stock ford truck just about any year with no modifications. and according to superlifts chart, they claim u need 2 inches to clear 33s. i think they r just out to get yer money.

A 4" will work. Ok, 33x12.50 under stock suspension right? I had 33's under mine. They fit perfect with no clearance issues. You're just going 3 inches taller, with the same width. A 4" will be perfect. Everybody that has/had a 78-79 Ford, knows the wheelwells are bigger than most. You do not need 6 inches. If you want a sixer, do it. But you don't need it. Theoretically you should fit 37-38's under a 6".

I'm with fordmaniac21 on the charts. Both Superlift and Rough Country's charts call for a taller lift than actually needed.

4" suspension will be fine, going from a 33 to a 36 is only adding 1.5" all the way around the tire.

ok, im thinking what i might do, is throw a 2"-3" body lift on, and then save up for a 4" suspension and 35"s.

sound ok?

I was running 35s under a 3" body lift fine. It rubbed just a bit when you turned the tires completely left or right but nothing that really mattered. Mine started out as stock. xxx.suspensionconnection.com has the body lifts for a good price. Spent less than $100 on it and not a lot of work to put it on. And if you want a good deal on good tires, try walmart. They now offer super sports at just about $118 each.

Texashottie is right... 3" body clears 35's fine with the right wheel offset... If you want no rub go with a 6" suspension lift. Mine still rub with the 4" suspension lift when I'm off road and bottom out the front suspension while I have the tires turned sharp so for NO-RUB go 6". All it rubs is the back of the plastic fender skirt though so you can either trim it (that's what I did) or just live with it, it's not like the plastic fender skirt is going to slash a tire or anything, just sounds bad when the tire gets into it.

Texashottie, you have any pics of "Big Blue"? That's what I named my bronco... only now it's more like "Ole Blue"... but I'm gonna get her fixed up again soon.

I'm running 36"s with a 4" lift and I had to trim about 1.5 inches off the front fenders. I might have got away without trimming if they were 12.5 wide but mine are 14.5 wide so they caught on the rim of the wheelwell.
