Post Largest tires for 15x8 Rims - Stock 1979 4x4

I have a 1979 F150 with stock suspension. I have a set of the original style wagon wheels all sand blasted and freshly painted. They are 15x8 rims. I hear conflicting stories on what the biggest set of tires is that I can mount without a lift on this truck. Assuming all suspension is still good (may change out front coils with new if these tires show any problems), can I get away with a set of 33x12.50x15's? Or do I need to stay with 33x10.50x15's? I had 31x10.50x15's on my previous 1978 150 4x4 with the same style rim (15x8), and there was plenty of room left. The 33x12.50's would be much wider though, so just curious what other's have done in the past. Thanks for any input or advice.

Largest tires for 15x8 Rims - Stock 1979 4x4

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Jun-02 AT 01:18 PM (EST)]For 33 12.5 the minimum rim width is supposed to be 10" but I've run many sets on 15x8" and even 15x7.5" with no problems. Tire just looks fatter/better on the wider rims.

I've had 33's on a 77 F150 and a 78 Bronco on 8" rims with no problems
minor rubbing when the suspension gets compressed (not extreme, just normal wheeling) but haven't hurt anything yet.

Largest tires for 15x8 Rims - Stock 1979 4x4

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Jun-02 AT 02:03 PM (EST)]I have a set of 35x14.5x15 on my 15x8" rims and never had a problem just adjust your air pressure accordingly so you don't wear out the center first. I actually run the wider tire on a narrower rim for rock crawling it works good for me. I run 23psi for running around and only 10-15 psi when off-road.
