351 W heads

Getting ready to build a weekend monster, but not sure about the heads. I have a set of Ford 351W heads,a set of 351C 2 barrel heads,or should I lay out the green for a set of alum heads. Is there much diffrence in them power wise. Thanks !!!

What are these head going on. What are the codes off of these heads and what kind of monster are you trying to build? this will help in answering your questions.

find yourself a nice set of iron heads like gt40P or roush or even take yours and have them ported and valve job. unless you have a grand to dump into a set of alum heads.

The heads I think are from a 351M. 2-barrel. I got several num bers off the heads.
23 D5AE A3A 94M and off the valve covers which could be diffrent ones,I got
EOTE-9C485-CZB BND As far as what I was thinking about putting them on. Its a 351 windsor (392 stroker) Well if they tend to be a much better head then any of the windsors, gt40p etc. I like to use them. I can get a set of 351 cleveland 4-barrel heads and I know the are great. The old boss heads. But not for low rpm,and the street. I know there not just a bolt on head, It takes some machine work, and a intake adapter. Thanks.

From: Destin/Ft. Walton Beach,
You can't beat the technology of the new aluminum heads that are out for a small block Ford. Any of the factory Windsor heads, even the GTP heads, are a little weak on the exhaust port flow numbers. Especially on an engine with as much potential as a 392. That is why people use a split duration camshaft. To balance things out a little better. The 351C heads flow well, but still not as well as some of the aftermarkets. They can't beat the flow characteristics of the modern computer designed ports of the new heads. Much money has been spent on research and development. As you know, you would have to use an expensive special intake manifold for them to work on your stroker. One more advatage with the aluminum heads, is you can go up a full point on your compression ratio over the iron heads, without detonation. On the same octane rated gas. Higher compression = More power. AFR (Air Flow Research) heads are my favorites, but the Canfields are very good too. One last advatage with the aluminum heads, is less weight obviously. Making your ride lighter is just like gaining horsepower. Especially from a standing stop, a lighter vehicle will accelerate quicker. With less weight on the front tires, the front to rear weight balance would be more even, and will handle the curves better also. Yes, they are worth the extras money.
