Usually if it is return lines it will start, then die then be hard to start again in decent weather. It sounds like you have a glow plug problem, possibly a fuel return problem too.
There is a fuel heater too it is in the top of the fuel filter header on the 7.3's and in the fuel line between the pump and the fuel filter on the 6.9's.
The diesel could also be a problem if your not running a fuel antigel additive depending on how cold it is and what blend your supplier has.
thanks for the reply man ok so if i take a test light to the glow plugs do i need to pull them out or can the stay in ive heard that on the 7.3 the glow plugs could break off trying to take them out also this truck came for neworlands la to exmore va this will be its first real winter and its starting to get cool like 28 f in the morning but i went out there an gain this morning she fired up ran great and no wont even give me smoke wile cranking so thank u and i would appreciate any more help yall could give me
The fuel shut off solenoid is inside the IP, back wire drivers side.
With the key on, if you remove and install the wire, in a quiet place you should hear a faint click as it opens and closes.
If the FSS was not working, it would not run when you pulled it.
Also what condition are the batteries in?
Cold weather makes what was a marginal battery in warm climates so much excess weight to carry around.
So I would also have the batteries load tested.
If you do that, most auto parts stores will test them for free, but just make sure you unhook the ground wire from one battery so you can test them one at a time.
Otherwise the test is useless.
1 battery is 3 4 months old the other is 2 months and onces shes warm shell run how do i do i test my glow plugs and what would be the best brand to buy and i dont want to buy some pos made in china junk
