[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Jan-03 AT 06:14 PM (EST)]This is a response to a discussion on another website regading I believe, the new 6.0 PSD. The poster claims that there are big manufacturing problems. Comments anyone?
Judging by his user name he probably works at Atlas Crankshaft in Fostoria Ohio. They used to make crankshafts for the 14 Liter Cummins there. Not sure what they make there now. I think I will hold onto my 7.3 for a couple of more years untill they get the bugs out of this new stuff
The production problems are mainly getting enough parts to manufacture engines with. We are having some minor problems with turbos and EGR valves but the major difficulty is getting enough injectors. The company that manufactures injectors had to revise their production process (at the last minute) to tungsted carbide coat the barrel and plunger and they are not up to speed yet.

Thanks Joe !
Its always great to have someone on the manufacturing side of things at the plants.
We trust your input all the time.
Guys! this guy knows his stuff !
On the International side of this since this is an International Engine (VT-365). We were having problems w/ injector hold bolts breaking or backing out. We are having problems w/ the EGR's as well.International has quit producing them as of right now in the medium duty line. This sucks for me cause i was looking forward to this engine and i was sent to the engine school for this engine. Oh well i didnt pay anything for it.
I picked mine up 12/28/02 drove to vegas, drove home, drove for a few days now it's in the shop 1/07/03 891 miles later with the engine light on solid, no power obd2 limp mode eating fuel Wow 10 days on the road that's pretty bad as of 1/7 they know something is wrong but I'm the guina pig for sure maybe you should call them and tell them what to do. Chevy friends are eating me up. Also the coolant recovery mounted over the engine was not tight worked it's way lose and was sitting on top of the engine when I got back from my trip. I just hope someone calls my dealer and gives them the support they need I don't want my truck to be practiced on to much.
Hey Joe, thanks for the on going updates on the 6.0 engine! I was able to see the new engine, and hear it run. The engine room is a little more crowded, but it sure sounds good. It definately has a different sound than the 7.3. I still am addicted to the 7.3, and it's signature sound:-) The F 550 had the dual alternators, which helped crowd the engine room. The new shrouds also change the look of things. I guess, I am guilty of being used to the 7.3 engine room. I sure wish I had the new mirrors, I sure wish they had been available for the 02. I am anxious to drive the 03 with the new tranny. I am even more curious to see if the 03 can smoke My 02. The fuel mileage for the 03 is supposed to better, We will find out how they do in the real world. Personally, I hope they are a great success, and do the PSD name proud, they sure have a tough act to follow.
