My 2004 F350 6.0 PSD starts hard, even at 60 degrees. You can't drive it until it warms up for several minutes. If I plug it in, it starts and runs out fine except for occasinal slight loss of power and blue smoke after acceleration. The service dept. looked at it and "said it was just a cold blooded one. ' I don't buy that, as no one else seems to have that problem.

 

This is most likely your injectors experiencing stiction. The oil in the injectors gets cold and the injectors stick shut until the oil warms up. There is two different flashes to fix the issue, one makes the injectors buzz for about 30 seconds after the engine is stopped, and one passes current through an electical circuit in the injector to heat the oil. The buzz flash as it is commonly called came out last fall I believe, and was replaced in March by the inductive heating flash. There is a lot of information about this issue in the 6.0L forum, which is a little further down on the main forum page. If you look there you can find the TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) number for the flash and give it to your dealer. Evidently your dealer doesn't do much work on the 6.0L engines so you may want to think about going to another one for your service if possible.

Try Hot Shot's Secret at www.lubricationspecialties.com. It was made just for "stiction". We were able to shorten start up time from something like 24 seconds to 16-18 seconds. You add it to the motor oil. It cleans the injectors and the turbo. It was designed for the Ford Power Stroke and it works. Sometimes the additives in the oil will varnish in the injector and cause them to not respond as quickly as factory spec. The HSS cleans all that out and make the engine run better. I have had many people tell me it has made a huge difference. It cost 50 bucks but it has a money back guaranteee. You don't have to use it every oil change-only when ou have a problem.
