Ryan, I live out near Warn and have a relative that works for them. I can tell you with good authority that they are the industry standard for a reason. I am a staunch advocate of Warn winches. That said, I've seen the mm in use and think that they are a good, dependable winch. I imagine you are on a very tight budget, and that being the case the mm is a very good deal that will get the job done fine. However, if you want the very best it will be the Warn.
You could also look into the winches off of those railroad repair trucks, they are supposed to be real strong... do a search there was a article on them about 3 or 4 monthes ago...
well the budgets not too bad actually...works finally started to pick up. but my thought is that if i get the milemarker, the difference in price will pick me up a synthetic line too. Pro...what size winch do you have?
Ryan, I used to run the same 9000# model your looking at. It never let me down but I sold it awhile ago to buy the 12k model, which I haven't gotten around to yet. The syn line is looking very attractive to me, but I'm going to wait awhile before I make my mind up about it.
i have a milemarker E9000lb winch and i am very impressed with it. i have abused the crap out of it. at first i was worring about 9000lbs not being enough but it gets the job done and has saved me numerous times.
although warn does make a great product and i would never have second thoughts about buying one, i just didn't have the money, and wanted to give milemarker a shot, and i like what i got. but the next one will be a 12,000lb one though. you can never have to much winch.
Ramsey is nothing but JUNK, like was said previously! This is basically what I would say. Go with Warn if you want a strong electric winch with a real good name and have the money. Go with MM if you are looking for a hydro winch and have a lil tighter budget. Altho I have heard that MM's electric winches are catching up to Warns in quality and a halluva lot cheaper! I am gonna get a MM hydro winch installed on the front and then put my POS Ramsey in the back so i have a backup if either of the 2 is messed up. Of course when my truck dies and my Ramsey is blowed up I will call Ho with his trusty 8274

EDIT: I read something very interesting the other day (i will never be able to find it again) that the XD9000 had real serious problems with the cable that it came with. In controlled labratory enviroment it constantly was breaking the line that came with the winch without the winch signaling the operator that it was at full or near fully load; which is extremely dangerous!

I've had my eye on that MM 9000 as well.....they've been cheap for a while now and I hope they stay that way until I get some $$. I am not expecting it to last like a warn, but of course I am not paying for a warn.
I haven't heard of such a thing and you can bet if it were true that Warn would have recalled or replaced those cables.
Anyways, I fully agree that mm is a close second. So, like said, if you want the very best, go Warn. If you want to save some coin and get a perfectly capable winch, get the mm. Both good units.
hMM..... I've always had good luck with Ramsey..........Wonder why towtrucks, flatbeds, utility companys use Ramsey ?.........Yeah their prolly junk.......
I don't know if they are junk or not, but they certainly aren't in the same league as mm or warn. Most towtrucks, flatbeds and utility companies I know of use pto/hydraulic winches...we're talking electrics here...
I was reading somewhere that the cheap ramseys are junk and the most $$$ one are a lot better.. Still would get a MM over the ramsey any day.
btw, the study that said the warn 9000 had cable snapping problems was linked from Milemarker's site. Supposedly, it was done by an independant testing company, and milemarker paid for the test. It does sound fishy; however, at least the testing labs are available for contact, unlike Slick 50, whose testing laboratories are 'secret'. http://www.winchtest.com
ramsey "recreational" winches are cheap and tend to be massive pieces of junk. when you get into the patriot series they cost just as much as the equivalent warn, but you never really hear anyhing about them good or bad.
Also, when i was shooping for a winch I did alot of research on the 12,000 lb electrics. Warn v. MM, the MM has better stats. Higher loaded line speed, lower loaded amp draw, and greater capacity than the warn after there were a couple of passes on the drum. I don't know about longevity of one v. the other, but all that plus the MM12000 being $600 and the Warn M12000 being $1100, once funds allow, i'm getting the MM.
