Hi, I got a question reguarding my rocker assemblys. Apparently my rocker assemblys are late '50's stuff ( rebuilds from PSE ). In looking at the stands, the hole that the hold down bolts go thru are roughly the same size as the bolts, as where my old non adj rocker stands have a squarish hole in them. These adj rocker assemblys have been on the motor for awhile, BUT I'm wondering if they might present a problem as far as oiling for the rockers are concerned. Any ideas? Thanks, Al
The hold down bolt for the 2nd from the left needs to be undercut to allow oil past it. What I mean by undercut is: The shank will get skinnyer about 1/2" from the bolt head then bigger again at the threads. This allows oil past the bolt to the rockershaft.
From what I dismember, the oil feed rocker stand will have a recess in the top of the head, and the bolt will be longer than the others. If you do not have oil dripping out of the rockers and down onto the top of the valve stem at a warm idle, you need to make some changes. The holes were squarish to allow the oil past the bolt, as noted. You may have an OK system that reduces the need for the 'oil fixes' whereby you meter the oil to the rocker shaft by putting a jet into the feed hole in the top of the head because the rocker arm stands limit the oil flowing around the hold down bolt..
