1967 F-100. V8. Timing chain jumped a tooth or two. Trying to get cover off. Got all bolts out and removed the dampener, fuel pump, woodruff key. etc.,. Now cannot slide cover foward, off. Seems to be hung up on a rather thick collar on the crankshaft snout which doesn't appear to have any tabs or whatever to remove. The cover moves up to that point and no further. Am i missing something very basivc in my frustration? A THOUSAND GOOD DREAMS IF YOU ANSWER AND HELP!! ARGGGHHH!!
If you removed the woodruff key, I assume you removed the crank shaft collar . The collar is about 4" long and 2.1" in diameter with step down diam about 1.9". The only other possibilty is the sleeve engine builders slide over the crank snout to cover the groove worn by the front seal. If so, you should be able to slide the cover over the sleeve.

Reason: forgot something
I am not an auto engine mechanic, but rather aircraft engines for over 45 years. Thanks, "sullyda1" for the reply. What I did was to push a pice of rubber hose over the collar and I then put a split ring over it and used a slide hammer. It came right out!! It's my son's truck and at this point I could have saved the money spent and darn near bought a ne F-250!! But he loves it, so....what can I do? His first truck. He's 12 years old and we (actually I) am doing a frame up restoration. About 80% done with 65% to go. Sure you'll understand. Thanks again.
