Rancho RSX Shocks

I have a 2001 Excursion Limited with the 7.3 Powerstroke Engine. It currently has 34,103 miles and I am considering the Rancho RSX shock for it. My Excursion is 2wd and does not go off road. I also have the Helweig rear anti-sway bar and I am looking for somthing with a good ride but stable on the interstate when the wind blows. Has any tried this shock, or is there another one that may meet my needs better?

Kenny, I've had a set on my Expy for a couple years now and really like them. These shocks eliminated nearly all the "bounce" and significantly reduced body roll. I couldn't believe how nicely a 6000# 4x4 truck could handle after installing them. They are however fairly firm, but I like firm over soft, especially in a 4x4.

I can deal with a little firm, but is it a good shock for 2wd vehicles?

Price out the Monroe Reflex before you buy the Rancho RSX. They are exactly the same shock except one is white, one is silver.

Both are made at the same plant in Nebraska. Tenneco owns Monroe and Rancho.

The Monroe might be cheaper.

I priced the Monroe Reflex at Advance Auto and they were 44.90 each, with a $30.00 rebate. I found the Rancho RSX's buy three get one free online for under $150.00 with free shipping. It looks like the Ranchos might get the nod.

I just put the Monroe Reflex shocks on my X and the ride is great. Not too firm at all. Paid 39/ea at O'reilys.

That's what I paid for my '04 Ram. Had them that afternoon.

$45 at Advance Auto is pretty high. Especially if that is after rebate.

The boots go up. It'll be self-explanatory once you get the new shocks.

With all this talk about how good the Ranchos are, I have to bud in and ask about Bilstein shocks. Does anyone here have experience with them?

shock dilemma

I would like to know more about Rancho vs Bilstiens too.. I am planning upgrade in next few weeks along with Helwig ASB.

suggestions for online sources would be appreciated too...

Are adjustable shocks inherently better due to range of use such as towing VS. daily commutes?

thanks
Bill
