Thanks MKJRH00, that is exactly what has happened to me. The brass insert is still in the port on the drivers side. Since I was planning on changing the fluid anyway I thought I would see if it can be seen from the inside. It seems like a big coincidence that my trans starts acting up since I tightened down on this probe and broke it. Maybe it is wedged against some piece that needs to move but can not. I don't know but I'm going to open it Tuesday and see. Thanks for your insight. 4_jjjj
I bought a tranny temp gauge from Teltek. Kind of expensive but looks good and starts reading at 100 deg. I had to use a tubing cutter and insert inline with cooler.
Just a thought but remember the probe of the sending unit has to protrude into the oil pan ( oil flow ) to gage the temperature correctly. If the probe is recessed it will not read the actual oil temp only the temp of the oil inside the hole.
I just installed one on our van. I bypassed the cooler in the radiator and connected the two hose ends into a steel T with brass nipples threaded in the T. The third hole is deep enough for the sending unit. The sending unit can be threaded in to any of the three holes to make sure of enough depth. All of this can be purchased at the local hardware. I had this same setup in a previous van for 160k miles. It works great and was easily transferred from the old vehicle to the new one. Very easy to do this way. Hope this helps.
