I tried using the search and read through several pages, and didn't find what I was looking for, I just ordered a trans temp, water temp gauge, and a full pillar pod, they are both electric, where exactly do i need to hook the sending units up to, or the best place so that I can monitor my temps with aftermarket gauges. I have an 01 V10/auto. thanks.
The trans sender goes in a pressure test port. It's on the driver's side of the trans, towards the front of the trans, just above the pan. There's a black hex head plug in there now. Remove the plug and install the sender. You'll only lose an ounce or so of fluid.
I recently found out that the most meaningful temps on the trans that are easiest to aquire are in the OUT line to the cooler...just tee into that...I was going to use the pressure test port also, but I have not gotten one yet...but now I might figure out how to plumb into the hose.
My dealers trans guy told me that the pressure port is a poor place to get the tempeture from as there is about 4" of dead oil in the passage so it takes a long time before you get any reaction on the gauge and there is no other connection to put the sensor into the slow response was my complaint. What I did was drain the oil out of the pan and drop it off Tig welded a 1/4 pipe thread half coupling on to the pan about a inch from the bottom on the drivers side and installed the sensor there, responds very well now giving me the oil temp returning from the rad to the pan.
Which cooler line is the one going to the oil cooler ?
Also anyone know the thread size so the oil cooler line can be removed from the tranny, possibly a nipple and a tee can threaded in and line attached with out cutting anything ??
