391 engine?

cranks & dizzys
Greg, yeah, the 391FT crank and the 427FE crank are fordged in the same dies. And they have the same stroke. The balance is differant and the snout is smaller on the 427, but they are basically the same thing. Rob M, my guess is that you have 390, not a 391. Ford lowered the compession in the 390 truck engine by playing games with the pistons, the 391 always had low compression. Lots of parts can interchange between the two, but not everything. The fact that you are using a mallory unilight and it seems to fit makes me think you have a 390. The 391FT engine uses abigger hex drive on the oilpump, and putting a 390 dizzy in the 391 would give you no oil pressure. You might also have a combination of the 2. Lots of guys add a bronze bushing to the FT block and use it for an FE build. DF

DF,
Thanks. Yeah I was hoping they didn't know what they're talking about. The distributor dropped in easy enough and I definitely have oil pressure, making sure the pump drive fit and was inserted into both ends was part of my check. So I'm going to continue ordering parts for my 390. There goes the savings account.
