Predator w/o Guages

Predator w/o Guages
There is a lot of information, but can anyone pass on if there will be a problem towing a 4500LB boat in the 65HP setting or a 9000lb 5th wheel in the 45 hp setting without any modifications (guages or exhaust). Would just like to keep the truck as stock as possible - not at all interested in the big (100hp setting)
Thanks

Definitely get gauges if using the chip. Even a stock truck can get the EGT's real hot towing 4500 pounds up a mountain.
I run the 65 HP Predator on mine w/o gauges or exhaust...gauges will be here tomorrow and exhaust within the week.
Last week I had to make a trip through Montana and Idaho, and of course, I just HAD to run the Predator! I was more than a bit paranoid at not knowing what the EGT's were. A few mountain passes to pull and speeds on the Interstate of a constant 80 mph had me really wondering where the temps were! While pulling the two largest passes, twice I had semis pull out in front of me to pass other semis and slow me down to 15 mph...I then had to get back up to 75 mph going up a 7% grade...let's just say gauges and a freer-flowing exhaust would have been nice assets at those times!

Well...I'll be the contradictory one... Yesterday I towed a 5200 trailer through the mountains in the 65 HP setting. My average temp, post turbo, was only about 450 degrees. The MAX I hit was a sustained 800 degrees on a 3 mile long passing lane up a 6% up grade doing 75+ mph. Take it for what it is worth, by I wouldn't worry too much about towing 5000# in the 65 HP setting.
I personally would not run anymore weight than that without gauges though. I put in the gauges for my heavier trailer. Haven't towed it yet, so I don't know what kind of temps it hits or what kind of fuel economy it gets.

You can play on the freeway also.

I agree it is to be safe, yes you can run it without gauages.....................

navyfe I hat to disagree with everybody. My EGTs will climb to over 1200 before I even reach the end of an onramp with an empty truck on the 100HP setting. The 65 Hp mode doesent climb as fast but it will go up around 1100. Please go to www.ford-trucks.com look in the 6.0 liter upgrade forum. There are a few people to include sponsers that sell modules running pre and post turbo gauges. They are reporting up 600 degress diffrence between pre and post turbo pyrometers. I dont want to cause problems just want prevent people from destroying a $ 40,000 dollar truck. hope this helps Jerry

http://forums.ford-trucks.com/ubbthr...5&o=31&fpart=1 Above is the link at the diesel stop. great reading. Tim I',m not trying to take any bussiness away from here. I'm just trying to save a few engines. If you have any pyrometer questions this place has done the research please take a look Jerry.

It is some good info over there, all of what is written........has been posted here. At one time or another!
It sure is weird how they do their signatures, most are longer than the post it self and way to busy for my taste. Some are short stories….
