I agee somtimes they can be pretty obnoxios over there at times. I am just trying pass on some good facts and info. I just wish we could get some facts from the turbo engeener. most people are taking the 1250 max EGT from the 7.3 and trying to apply it to the 6.0 which is a completly diffrent turbo. I work with turbine engines in the aviation community. and some turbine wheels are rated for higher temperatures than others. It would be good to Know exacty what the EGT limit is on the 6.0 turbo. anybody have any contacts at garrett?
Good call...
Garrett may be a good starting point...
Ford's first response would be
"Why do you want to know?" and then
"What was your VIN# again so I could "help" you?"
There is a post some where her in the halls of FTE that talks about at 1395 the vanes start to take the shape of a flying missiles, but only after 19 seconds. Still looking for it. And of course I paraphrased it just a bit.
If someone can remember.... post a link. It is a good info.
Tim, All these numbers that are being quoted for 1250 and above are Pre-Turbo. I believe the 600 degree difference, quoted above, because the turbo housing and vains act as a huge heat sink, cooling the exhaust gases before the post turbo probe can see it.
I read a very interesting post the other night. Said, and I am paraphrasing now, the hottest component in an engine is the exhaust valve. That is where you need to be for an accurate EGT reading, worst case scenario. Seems to me, as long as you stay under 1250 F, at this point(manifold) you will be fine. I would hate to push things to the ragged edge, just to find out the pyrometer was off a bit. Not worth it.
Everyone has their own opinion, which it should be. Everyone who owns their own truck, should do as they wish. But I agree with several of my peers above. No guages, no Exhaust, absolutely no module, especially on an 03 motor, with that squirrly down pipe that we have. Square??? Some in engineering need to be shot .

Yep, I asked the muffler guy if he crushed the stock downpipe in trying to get it out when he put on my turbo back !!!!
We laid them side by side and the new 3.5 to 4" downpipe looked like a 36 inch pipe compared to the stock one !!! Wish I would have taken some pictuires, but didn't !!!
I also wish I had done some b4 and after runs, but didn't do that either- DOH!
I can just say my butt-o-meter and the 1/8th mile times seemed to verify it REALLY helped !

Lariat I agree. The difference between 1250 and my remembering at what temp parts start to remove themselves is 145 not much. Surly enough…not to run gauges.
My worry is when people say they will only use the low setting and then buy the gauges later…………..well we are guys and we all know that will not work. As soon as we try 65 then on to the next then no with gauge, Fords ability to look back into computer history and they will see…………hum………real high fuel rates and over temp the turbo and NO WARRANTY…….IMO
I wish some would understand we are trying to help them keep there 45k investemnt.......................RUNNING
Tim,
Yup. Still completly stock here. Takes me forever to buy something, cuz I research it to death. Guages are my first performance toy. Then maybe, just maybe, if everything looks good with the engine(damn, I wish the Diesel Dude was still here, not that you don't make a fine Moderator. I know you know what I mean. Just wanted to verify where that cut off date is for those pesky injectors......)AND I acn convince the wifey, I will do the exhaust and module, at the same time. Although, I don't use the HP I have 98% of the time, so maybe we will skip the module....ANYWAY.... The 6.oh is a long story, but definately was not done in my usual manner.

We are way too much a like, mine is still stock.....for many of the same reasons Only thing I have no wife
Well...I'll be the contradictory one... Yesterday I towed a 5200 trailer through the mountains in the 65 HP setting. My average temp, post turbo, was only about 450 degrees. The MAX I hit was a sustained 800 degrees on a 3 mile long passing lane up a 6% up grade doing 75+ mph. Take it for what it is worth, by I wouldn't worry too much about towing 5000# in the 65 HP setting.
tristankc,
Do you have any exhaust modifications on your truck?
I was going to pick up the 4" turbo-back HOG system, but the guy selling them said it won't make "too much" difference in EGT's on an '04 with the improved downpipe???
Obviously the T-304 stainless HOG will look real nice, but I would like to have a better reason than just looks to hack the exhaust off my 6000-mile old truck...especially if simply removing/replacing the muffler is all I need to do to get it to flow and cool the turbo better!
Smith-04 60 The hog exaust is a really nice system I helped install one on a club members truck. it was deffinatly nicer looking than the banks system I installed on my 96 F-350. the 6inch exaust tip looks way better than the DPPI one. Hog also has a true 4 inch downpipe, and you have your choice of mufflers for diffrent noise levels.
has anyone heard of or know of that the truck will blow out black smoke real bad with the predator installed on it. one of the shops was saying something about it to a friend of mine so im just asking.
Ok Thanks I Hope Im Happy With It When Its Done. It Gets 21 Mpg On The Freeway Now And Has Plenty Of Power So I Realy Dont Need It. I Guess More Money Than Brains
