You can't honestly compare an Excursion to an Expedition.
I believe FORD should continue to make both of them. We need the choice.
Maybe put a smaller diesel in the Expedition.
I have an expedition and it fits us fine - could'nt see my wife driving a Excursion - seems to be overkill for our needs.
When we bought our Expedition we thought it met our needs just fine with three kids we had plenty of room for cargo with the third row removed and had room with it for when the kids wanted to bring friends along. Has anybody seen that commercial about how a baby changes everything? I love my son but there is a certain IUD manufacturing I’d love to get our money back from. So now we need that third row all the time and I have to say the cargo room with the third seat does not exist. We can hardly take the 45-mile trip to the in-laws with out people holding stuff on their laps. Then there is the gas mileage. No matter what I do I’m not getting any better that 10.5-mpg unless we are on a road trip. Do I think there is a market for a stretched diesel Expedition? I sure hope Ford thinks so. My wife is not so keen on an Excursion, but as fuel prices go up as well as my boys, I don’t think we have another option.
The Motor Trend article (I'd hardly call it that actually) said it's 16" longer and will be offered with the new Hurricane V8 (6.2 liters I think) and a small diesel, 3.6 liters I think. I'm already salivating although 3.6 liters seems a bit small for such a large truck.
