Thumbs down Ball Joints worn ??

Hello all. Sent my '01 Expy EB to the tire shop to install a new set of Dueller Revos and an alignment. They called me saying that the lower ball joints have play. Is this normal for a 4x4 with 46,000 miles??

Guess I'll have to use that extended warrenty!

I went to the stealer for a nonfunctioning rear wiper and they talked me into replacing bad ball joints... '00 exp EB with 24k miles...

Whos fault is that, Romac? Next time, get a second opinion if you think the dealer is fluffing you.

I actually like my stealer, just a bit frustrated that the joints were bad so early on in mileage and not covered under cpo.

Last year I traded my 2000 in with 76000 miles and original ball joints.

I even had the dealer go out of the way during my state inspection to check them and the tie rod ends.

Everythine was fine.

I would wonder too unless you did a lot of off-roading.

My 98 still had original lower ball joints and they did not have grease fittings. The replacement i used does.

In my case, the local tire shop and my dealer had the same diagnosis - small amount of play. Since it was covered by the exteneded warranty, I had both lowers changed out at the dealership. While they were in there, had them do the front brakes for $170. Saved me a lot of swearing at the front rotors!

My truck doesn't see any off-road. Unless the road to the grocery store is under construction

Mine were bad when i bought my expy. I got it used w/ 75,000. The man i bought it from lived on a gravel/dirt road. He traveled 5 miles on dirt to get to a real road. I had one completely shot, I pretty bad, and one a little loose. I choose to replace all four.
