My Check engine light came one and the diagnostic report showed two errors: P0156 and P0161.
After speaking to a few people, Checker, Friends etc. they suggested I replace the O2 Sensor. I replaced the downstream H02 Sensor on the Drivers side. After a while of driving, the check engine light came back on. I am only getting the P0161 error now, so apparantely replacing the downstream H02 sensor did something, but didn't fix everything. Any ideas? I have searched everything I can find but everything seems to point to the H02 sensor that I have already replaced. I am completely lost!!!
You have a vacuum leak in your PCV line. The leak is in the rubber elbow that connects the PCV line to the intake manifold. The elbow is difficult to see but you can feel it. It is located on the top, center, rear of the engine. After time it rots, gets soft and develops a leak. This can be repaired in 5 minutes without tools. The part is about $25 to $50 depending on which engine. It gives you the entire PCV line but you only really need to replace the elbow. Good luck. I wonder how many thousands of O2 sensors ($$$$$$$) Ford has sold because of this simple problem.
P0161 is a detected fault in the heater circuit of the downstream passenger side O2 sensor. Most likely cause is either a wiring fault (open/corroded pin, pulled wire, etc) or a fault in the heater control driver circuit inside the PCM.
Consult the PC/ED and EVTM for the troubleshooting steps to take.
Thank you all. I was about to take it to a repair shop until I received the first response. I ended up replacing the two back 02 sensors and that fixed the problem. I think I would have been fine just replacing the drivers side 02 sensor but decided to replace both.
Thanks again. By this message board I probably saved over $200.00 in parts and labor!!
