The MPG part of the question is hard to answer.
For most people it will actually hurt or not help the milage due to the fact you will be going lots faster. I had a 6.9 that I recently replaced with a 7.3 turbo that is not broke in yet. The milage I have seen so far is comprable to what I was getting with my 6.9, but I am also driving faster.
I tow and haul lots with my truck and I am averaging around 10 MPG. Did take one trip across the mountains with an empty truck. Drove fairly fast and got around 13.8 for just that trip.

As far as the cost, I would put it in the 2500 ballpark.
You need the turbo, an air cleaner, and a three inch exhaust.
Everything is bolt off and bolt on.
The oil pressure sender gets moved is the only wire involved.
Installing the three inch downpipe is the hardest thing to do, I installed a two inch body lift so it was easy to get the three inch pipe in.
I would also recommend installing a pyrometer with the turbo.
I have the ATS turbo and love it.

I average 10 MPG for the year.
I did get over 20 once.
I get about 4 plowing snow.
I get about 10 working normally. If you call this normally.

That is 4 tons of rock on the back.
I have moved over 150 tons in one day, although it was a long day.

Your going to see something close to that. I am assuming you are in Wyoming, your elevation and depending on where you are in Wyoming will affect that some as well. My base elevation at the house here is 1100 feet.
After having driven trucks there, I would say that a turbo would help you even more than me due to the elevation.
Those winds you guys have out there are gonna be another factor. Drop three gears in a semi just because of the wind, for hundreds of miles at a time. I used to live in Denver when I was a meat hauler.

Yep to both. Bad thing is, it is gonna run so good that keeping the foot out is not easy. You do kinda slow down a little after a while.
The other day a GMC Dura trash with a couple of squares of shingles on the back pulled up beside me with a load of rock on. The 7.3 turbo has so much torque that I was slipping my brand new Luk clutch in high gear as I blew him away pulling a hill.

God I love my truck. Its a real sleeper with the 7.3 turbo in such an old truck.

Hey Dave, that is quite a nifty picture of your truck. That effect of the rear tires looking like they are squatting is pretty neat. hahaha. Weigh station guys would luv to meet you. Be safe, driver.

Licensed for 20,000 (Business plates 135.00 a year).
Also it has business insurance with 20,000 GVW rated dump truck rates.
Scales don't care as long as you pay to haul what you haul here in WVa.

The tire wet on the tires make them look like they are squatting more than they are.

What does get them upset is someone with regular auto plates and auto insurance(8000# at 32.00 a year hauling something like that for business use).

I agree with Dave on the mpg isue. After all the mods, your mpg goes down cause you are happy with the power and have a heavy right foot. I did the exact same thing, and am still doing it. I read in a thread along time ago that if you put on headers, air intake mod, exhaust mods, that you will be pretty close to a stock turbo. Don't know if there is much truth in that, but if there is, it is a cheaper way to go. Nice truck Dave. Make me want to take mine out to go cruising for a coffee
