Howdy, I have a ? about shifting a manual BW 1356 t-case. I converted my pushbutton 4X4 for a lever. I noticed that if I leave the case in neutral for more than a second, it grinds when it goes into gear. I have an automatic tranny. Is this normal for these things?
I have a 1995 Bronco 302 auto., manual hubs (new). with push button 4x4. When I put it in 4 high it goes great for about 10-20 seconds then the engine revs up, and the thing won't move. It acts just like it's in nuetral. I can put it in park put it in 2wd, put it back in 4 high and it does it all over again. What's weird is I can put it in 4 low and it works perfect. I dont think the hubs had much to do with it because it done this with the auto. hubs too. I feel it could be a wiring issue. Can anyone give me any advice. Thanks.
Maybe you could take the shift motor off and see if it is dirty. It doesn't sound like that is the problem, but it wouldn't hurt to try. A conversion kit is needed when a pushbutton 4X4 has lockout hubs installed, and if it was not used along with it, the hubs could be casuing a problem. I think that a pushbutton t-case speeds up the front driveshaft slowly so the auto hubs will spin in when the pickup is moving. Also, the transfer case could be broken internally. Or, you could do what I did and get rid of that pushbutton and make it a manual.
Reddog 95. It sounds as if your transfer case needs some work. If you are in 4HI, the engine speeds up and you don't go anywhere, this indicates that the transfer case popped into neutral and the engine is disengaged from the drivetrain. 4LO might work just fine in this instance.
Overhauling a transfer case is only moderately difficult. The hardest part is doing the removal and reinstallation. Get yourself a decent repair manual and see if you are comfortable with doing the overhaul yourself. An alternate would be to pick up a used transfer case and do a swap.
