Although there will never be another band like the early '80's VH, which is still cool, Ive always said Diamond Dave is a white michael jackson, with all his girly screaming and yelping. Dont get me wrong, he sure commanded attention on stage, he's just not all there or something....
I do think some of the bands best work was before they dumped Sammy in the 90's. Songs such as "Don't tell me what Love can do" from Balance, and "humans being" from the TWISTER soundtrack are as good as it gets in my book.
I used to think Aerosmith was the greatest American rock band, until these past few years. I saw them on the 9 Lives tour, and they were mediocre, and also this past year, for the Honkin' On Bobo album before it was actually released, and that show was a joke. I like the band, gut geez those last couple of shows were just not cutting it, and trust me, I love music, and Ive been to hundreds of concerts.
It really soured me when they canceled the remainder of their tour a couple of years ago. It was in support of the album with the song "jaded" on it. At first, they canceled a couple of shows, then it was a months worth, then the whole tour. In the beginning it was because of "illness", but when the truth came out, it was because they were not happy with ticket sales. BOOO!
Steven Tyler still rocks though. He's one helluva vocalist/performer.
-BTW Poison is together. The only thing that really ever happened to those guys is C.C. DeVille left a couple of times.
Poison has always been a consistant good show. They have somewhat of a lack of "great" material, but for the most part, they do a good job.
Hey, your opinion is as valid as the next person's. I agree totally with your take on VH in the mid-90's. I thought Balance was as good as anything in the Van Hagar catalog ("7th Seal" and "Can't stop lovin you" are standouts).
Too bad about Aerosmith - never seen them in concert, other than TV shows like "Midnight Special." They're like the Rolling Stones of the USA - they've been so good for so long.
Saw CC DeVille on Rock and Roll Jeopardy - that dude looks goofy, but he's smart!
I'm headed to see Van Halen this summer in OKC. I've looked at some of the concert pictures people have posted - what's with Eddie's hairdo? Looks like he's stealing KISS bassist Gene Simmon's look - the dork knot on top.
Sammy Haggar...what can I say.. totally lame. Neil Young said it best, "It is better to burn out, than to fade away" If you know what that means, then you'll understand that Van Halen with Sammy Haggar are painfully fading away. VH was great, I mean they were really the best for 10 years! They will never recapture that magic, and anything they do now will just mean a couple more bucks in the vault.
I know that DLR was a good front man but hey he is ate up and has a real bad bleached blond comb over at this point. DLR's voice is nowhere near as good as Sammy. Don't get me wrong I really do like the old VH but they are a better band with Sammy in there singing and not jumping around kicking because he doesn't have his voice left. It kind of depends on what kind of VH you are in the mood for when you pop one of their CD's in, you can have the best of both worlds (no pun intended)just as long as its not Gary Cherone--man what a flop. Thats the only Vh CD I don't own.

I am sooooo with you!! Why can't these people (KISS too) just realize that they had their time & they are just too old to be that good again.
I personally liked Sammy solo and VH with DLR. My Favorite VH cd's are Woman and Children First and Fair Warning. Back before Eddie sold out to the Keyboards.
David has never had hip replacements. Eddie had one done.
If you listen to "Be Wise Majic" on Vanhalen greatest hits Dave can still sing. He still has very powerfull vocal cords, a little raspy then years past.
Thought it was "Me wise majic." To tell you the truth, I didn't think it was Dave when I first heard that song. I read where they have 3 new tunes in the vault from 2002-2003 with DLR; hope they see the light of day soon.
I'm pretty sure it's "Be Wise Majic". I still like Daves singing. I know that it's probably better that Dave doesn't get back with VH. they have totally different styles.
I'll be waiting for the 3 tunes in the vault.
I saw DLR solo a while back, was totally unimpressed. He came out drunk, and was too busy playing with a sword than singing. I love his vocals when he can stay sober to do it, I loved his deep sound on Me Wise majic. I like both versions of VH, but the new stuff just doesn't have the power it used to. It's good, just not as good. Dave brought a kind of charachter to the group, just as Sammy does, it just is that Dave was more carefree and wild, but that may have ended up being his downfall. Sammy is more business, less play. They just don't stand out as being Van Halen, instead of just another ok band. They started sounding like the same song over and over , rather than having the variety that Dave seemed to bring. Many of the new bands have the same problem, they get to sounding too similar, not enough variety in style.
