What all does the computer on a truck tranny control? I think its only the lockup in the converter or is there more to it than that? It would be nice to be able to put a non lock up converter in one and use and computer you want. Would it affect the computer at all if you had say an old c4 or c6 with a fuel injected engine?
The computer controls the electronic transmission - so all shift characteristics are determined by the computer based on loads, throttle position, etc. If the truck has a C6 or AOD(non-electronic transmissions) then the computer doesn't control anything in the transmission. There are computers for the non-electronic transmissions that should control those engines just fine, such as the A9P, just to name one. If you try to run a C6 or something similar with a newer computer designed to control an electronic transmission, then it will probably not run right, and it will set codes in the computer since it has nothing to control.
Thanks, Just wondering on that. I think I have found me a whole setup from a Virginia salvage yard. Said they had 3 95 model truck systems. For 200 dollars plus shipping. Should be alot cheaper than 595 dollars for a brand new conversion kit.
