I have a 1993 Ford Ranger XL 2.3 5 speed 2wd short bed. I am very interested in dropping a fuel injected 302 in it. how much can I expect to spend. I would like a 5 speed and how much harder does that make it. I have around 5 grand to work with, what will that get me to?
Price wise, I cannot give you a figure, but things will go a lot easier with an Edelbrock Dual plane intake (#3721 + #8053-EGR plate, for EGR: #7121 for non EGR), and 500 CFM 4bbl (1403-elec choke, 1404 man choke.)
A set of adapter mounts from Advanced Adapters (#12679-adapters + 2-#2329-motor mounts), Headers from Hooker (6802), and a Fox Chasis, I prefer an 84-85 (so I don't have to buy the Intake manifold-factory 4bbl), engine/transmission set. (Replace bellhousing with an F- series hydraulic style), and make sure you have a vacuum advance distributor-Advanced Auto has them for under $100, including core!
You're almost ready, just take out the Radiator/Condensor, grill, and any metal supports that cross between the fenders so you have a clear path, and the rest is pretty simple.
P.S.--Beef up the rear, Traction Bars, and such. You may have to have your drive shaft worked, get a quote before you start
You may want to try a whole F- series trans, not sure how that will work though
Good Luck!!
Easier and cheaper, unless you know someone who can build you a custon PCM - CHEAP. Also, the Ford Thick Film Ignition (box on distributor) will not work. You will have to go with Duraspark (Ford), or an afrermarket box. Unless you get the custom computer

was looking around at the trannies, noticed late model F-150s use same SERIES transmission - M5OD - Rangers use the M5R1; F-150s use M5R2, that may just work out a lot easier
