I just Purchased an F250 SD SC 4x4 V8 off the lot and the sticker shows the Tow hitch receiver but not the Towing package. If you go to the Ford web site and build a truck, when you select the Tow hitch receiver it says you must also select the Towing package. It won't let you select the hitch only. My truck has the hitch, a round 7 pin plug and a 3 pin plug. I thought the seven pin plug comes with the towing package? How can I tell if I also have the towing package installed? It doesn't look like I have the front stabilizer bar but I have never had towing equipment so I don't know what to look for. Thanks for any help.
By the way, I don't know how they did it but even though I didn't exactly order this truck I know when the dealer did and it only took about 5 weeks to come in. The dealer said they got a call that there was an "open slot" so they ordered the truck I wanted without a deposit and without telling me (It's a long story). I guess I got lucky!
According to my documentation, you should have the tow package. 2 reasons to make me think this.
A. Getting the trailer hitch requires 531 or 532 (which are the tow packages).
B.The tow package is what gave you the 7wire trailer harness.
You should also see in your glove box a trailer brake wiring kit..
Other items with the tow package are 130 amp alternator, and front stablizer bar.
Not sure how to tell which alternator you have, but you should see the stablizer bar..
Roger_B, Thanks for the info. You are right, I do have the wiring kit in the glove box (2 relays, 2 fuses and a plug). I saw it but didn't know what it was. As for the stabilizer bar, I don't know what to look for so I guess I will bring it to the dealer and find out. I guess I got it for free because there is no line item for it on the sticker. Of course the invoice was a little higher than the order sheet, 74 dollars I think but the Tow pkg is $150. They probably snuck it in somewhere.
You are also right about something else. This truck IS great! I still have my 92 f150 4x2 which served me well but the F250 is in a class by itself. My daughter no longer wants to drive in the wife's explorer. She wants to go in "dad's big truck".
Located behind the front axle, sort of a U shaped bar that spans the width of the frame rails. In this location it almost looks out of place. It's about 1.25-1.5" thick. Usually connected with some rubber bushings. On my previous F-150 it ws in front of the IFS TTB. Sorry about the rough description, i'm at the office.
Mine also has the Ford factory 2" receiver but only has the 4 wire plug attached to the bumper. The previous owner hadn't touched the bags in the glovebox.
On a side note my old F-150 had a sway bar on the BACK of the truck. I believe it was part of a "handling package" i ordered. Any rear sway bars on the F-250 SD?
