Hi all,
Bought a new 250 6.0 a few weeks ago. I'm quickly realizing that I really need that reverse sensing system added. They call it the Echomaster. Went to my dealer today and they want $450.00 for it. I thought I would just find it on line for much less but no luck. This one, the Echomaster, is only sold through new car dealers. Does anyone have a line on any other reverse sensing systems? Punched in "reverse sensing systems" into some search engines but did not come up with much. Also, if you did get it on your truck, either as an option when you bought your truck, or had it added later like I'm trying to do, would you mind telling me what it cost you?
I just noticed in the second link that the digital readout can be hung from on top. Makes it even better. I want this down low off the dash if possible.
Hi fred ,the company that i prefer is rostra contols great unit ,i have put these on delivery vans , for years! 2 units mount under bumper one on each side ,very small not an eyesore ,then there is a small l.e.d. display that mounts up high on windshied, about an inch high. also beeps and gets louder as you get closer!
The "reverse vehicle aid sensor" I got from the factory on my 350 is a $245 option. I haven't seen any opinions on how it compares in performance to aftermarket units.
I'd like to put one on the front to help park this beast. Sometimes the lift makes it real hard to see over the hood. I have found myself backing in the parking spots.

My dealer did a dealer swap for my 250 KR with the sensor. Wasn't sure if I would like it, but it is a great option. My wife loved it so much we had to get her a new Explorer so she could have the sensors as well.
I also have used and installed the Rostra unit. I works very well, nice small LED warning lights, and audible tone unit. All pieces are prewired, just plug in.

Does anyone know if the factory back-up warning system can be turned off temporarily? Ever since my wife backed my F250 into our turn-around and drove the rear bumper half-way up the hood of my Mom's Taurus parked there, I've thought these alarms would be a good idea (I was watching from the kitchen window and saw it coming, but could not stop it!). However I plow in the winter and I'm often going back-and-forth right up close to snow banks. This alarm would drive me nuts if it was going off all the time. I hope to order a new truck this weekend and this is one option I can't make up my mind on.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Barry
Yes, the alarm can be turned off and on with a button on the dash. But every time you go out of reverse then back again you will have to re-disable it. Unless you modify the wiring yourself.
I like SCRATCH's idea of puttin some on the front too!
Many over at the Lincoln LS board have had great successs and responses to this - Here's a typical post:

The backup sensor package wasn't an option on my Y2K LS - but yesterday I added one - looks factory - honestly - I parked beside a 04 Navigator - no one could tell the difference.
$63 bucks - cheap
I added the display.
Great, professional little package, took about two hours to install - mostly time to run and hide wiring.
