I just posted a photo of the factory flares I installed on my reg cab XLT in my gallery. I drilled 4 holes in each flare under the lip with aluminium self tapping screws and used 3M double sided adhesive tape on the fender sides to attach the flares. My thanks to SykoX
Very nice!!! Well done. Question for ya. How do you like your Westin Step Bars? Are they far enough away from the truck that you actually have room to step on them without having to worry about hitting your truck with your boots or shoes? I am wanting to get the Westin Chrome Plated Stainless nerf bars for my truck, but I want to make sure there is good clearance between the bar and the truck. Please inform, if you will. Thanks.
This is the second truck I have had the Westin step bars installed on, 1st one was my 97 Ram 1500 and then my 04 F-150. On the 04 F-150 I do not have any problems with toe clearance while getting in and out, as a matter of fact my wife recently had knee surgery and the step bars made it much easier for her to get into and out of the truck. I wear a size 9 shoe/boot. I have plenty of clearance. Fella might hit the bottom of the door jamb if he wears a size 11 or larger, but then the fella is probably 6' tall or better and unless his truck is running a lift kit getting in and out probably isn't to much of a problem. But I have found the step bars to also be a benifit in most parking lots, as well as the hitch bar and ball sticking out the rear bumber. Know what I mean!!!?
Oneagle1,
I had a 98 Dodge Ram 1500 that I traded in on my 04 Scab. I had step bars on the Dodge. I don't remember what brand they were though. The step bars I had on the Dodge were designed angled down, so I had plenty clearance. I am a 6' tall person who wears a size 12 shoe. Too bad you don't live near me so that I could check them out in person. I really want step bars, but I want to be happy with them, ya know? I won't be happy if I can't use them without hitting the side of my truck with my shoes.
I'm a new guy here. I have a 2004 STX scab, dark shadow gray. I would like to add some factory looking black flares. I didn't see the pics in your gallery and was wondering if you could help and also if anyone knows where I could get flares that look like the wheel well moulding on the XLT? thanks
dkshdwSTX, Fred may be out of town for a while, I know he was scheduled to go overseas for a while. He got his flares from me, they were the stock flares off of my '04 Lariat. You can buy them from Ford direct or look around in the F-150 board classifieds, I have seen a few sets for sale.
You are right man, I been in Kuwait for over a week now but will be flying into Iraq tomorrow. Thanks for answering dkshdwSTX with the info he wanted. Dang sure miss driving my F-150 almost as much as I miss my wife. This is going to be along 4 months this time. It is hard as the dickens to get on the forum from this location but I sometimes can get through. Hope everone is enjoying their new F-150s 'cause I will when I get back in late July. Keep everyone over here in your thoughts and prayers and I'll try to post when I get the chance.
Dang Fred, wasn't expecting to hear from you so soon. You take care over there and remember you and all they other guys and gals over there are doing a great job and will be in our thoughts and prayers until every last one of you are home and safe.
To SykoX, no wonder those flares look factory. I'm still searching. Thanks for answering, and to Oneagle1, keep your head down over there, and thanks for being over there for us. Most people I know appreciate what you guys are doing.
