I'm redoing the brake lines after the IFS swap and my old trusty double flaring tool has finally given up... the knurls in the press will no longer hold the tubing tight ( at least on 3/8 fuel line)...
anyone recommend a good reliable (less than 100 buck) flaring tool kit for 45° double flare brake lines ???
I bought an Imperial Eastman No. 93-FB kit. McMaster-Carr has it for $44.67, part number 2694A12. You might be able to find it cheaper if you look around. It does 45 degree single and double flares on 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", and 1/2" tubing.
I redid my entire brake system and some fuel lines as well. Not one bad flare in the whole operation. Couldn't be happier with the purchase.
Course, I did forget to put the flare nut on once or twice, but I don't think a better flaring kit will help that.
Snap Ons Blue Point line is also very good. Somebody else makes it no doubt, so it is probably no better that what has already been suggested. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who forgets the nut sometimes. Ever put it on backwards?
try ebay. i have one for sale on ebay, but it's a cheap one. when i was on ebay there were 44 other tools for sale. there is even two snap on sets. heres the link
John; I have been using a New Britain FT-12 for about 25 yrs. it is starting to show it's age,but still works. I think I purchaced from Mac Tools. I do not remember how much it cost's sorry. Jim VA.
Napa has a good set, about 45 bucks with a lifetime replacement, I broke one of the "pins" that you insert into the tube to make the flare, not while doing the flare though....after losing it I accidently dropped a cylinder head on it (I know, I know) took it back, they opened up another box gave me the "pin" --boom-- no questions asked....
