This may sound stupid but is thier a filter in the transmision? I recently had the trany fluid sucked out by Valvoline Instant Oil Change. They said they didn't need to drop the pan because my truck did not have a tranny filter but rather some type of "screen" that does not need replacing. I thought this was kind of wierd. I have already brought my truck back thier once because they put regualr gear oil in the rear and after reading my manual, I broguht it back, so they could put synthtic 75w140 back in the rear. Any help.
They're pullin your leg. There should be a filter in there. If the service includes it, take it back and make them drop the pan. Also, make sure that the put the correct type of fluid in there.
A lot of places sell the transmission fluid exchange rather than a full service. Even Ford dealers are sold equipment by Rotunda for such services since some of the Fords dont have access to the torque convertor to drain it. Your F150 certainly does have a filter and I recommend changing it with fluid every 30000-60000 miles depending on how severe the driving. If you have a transmission that uses Mercon V you can get by every 60000K or longer but I personally change mine at 30K intervals anyway, along with filter. I havent seen a transmission fail yet because you changed the fluid too early.

I worked at VIOC (Valvoline Instant Oil Change) for 4 months...they're wrong about the tranny not having a filter, but the service they perform (a flush) doesn't include a filter change.
I wouldn't take my vehicles to VIOC again if they were the last place on earth...I'm sure there are some techs that know what they're doing, but I've seen TOO many instances of stripped oil pan/drain plug threads, running engine with no oil in crankcase, wrong fluids added, coolant hose clamps not retightened after coolant flush/fill, etc. to make me know better than ever trusting another "quicky lube" place EVER again
Regards,
Scott
