Installing those "O" rings are a must. If you took your turbo off, all that you will see is the top of the pedestal. The oil ports are right on top and one set of "O" rings are set into each recess.

The pedestal has four bolts keeping it connected to the block. If you suspect you had an oil leak before tearing down the turbo, then I suggest removing the pedestal and replacing the two "O" rings there as well.

If you're going to gut the EBPV gut then you no longer need the pedestal that has the actuator, etc. I bought a non-EBPV pedestal whil I was at it. If you ever think about using an exhaust brake in the future, then keep your original pedestal.

I've got your e-mail......I'll send instructions on the EBPV gutting. Do you have an air die grinder? Dremel tool?, If so go to Checker, etc. and buy a 3/4 freeze plug first.
