what would cause...

I have a 74 f250 w/a 390. The flexplate cracked and completely seperated around the crankshaft bolts. what caused such stress? no bolts were loose. im about to put it all back together and dont want to have to do it again, thanks, duhkid

usually caused by too much end play in your crankshaft...The thrust bearing wears, and allows the crank to move back and forth....Check it before you put it back together....
