Well my 400 is pretty much dead. And ive been looking for differnt motors.. A few resent post have made me wonder about a 351c.. would the Tranny mount up to it? and Would i have to change the motor mounts?? What about a 428 too?
Ok I got you now.. I have my eye on a 72 351c 4v if i get it ti might put it in my F-100 or mustang. I didnt know a 351c shared the bell housing with small blocks. But its a big block aint it?? Right now i say my best bet is to just find another 400 to replace the one that is in my truck.. It jumped time.. and backfired really bad and now it has a loud knocking noise from the bottom end.
That is pretty funny though.. Smaller is Bigger.. I might try finding another 400 or a 428.. I dont really want a 460 since they are so heavy and i could watch my gas guage just drop. the 400 is bad enough..
I don't think theres 50 lbs difference between the 428 and 460.
how about rebuilding the 400, you will be impressed with the power gain from a cam and 4bbl. because its dead doesn't mean you can't bring it back to life.
Sound like the 351m/400 are a odd ball motor lol.. dont interchange with much other ford stuff. I am thinking about rebuilding mine but i am scared to tear it apart.. The oil pump has been verly working then it went out. Then it also jumped time and backfired now has a loud knock from the bottom end.. Might of bent a rod. I think i might rebuild it if i cant find a decent replacement for cheap. Ive rebuilt my 351w and been working on my dads Cobra's motor. So it shouldnt be that hard. Now i just got to wait till i get paid. And start ordering motor parts.. Pizza hut dont pay enough to support my hobbies
The best thing this motor has, is that the heads on it are nearly identical to 2v cleveland heads ( M heads have a bump in the exhaust port for the smog stuff).
