And can you imagine if a 30-06 was the new gun of choice? At least scope manufacturing companies would be making bank. Any where you go would be 10 times worse than DC was a while back with teh 'Beltway Snipers' Youi could be in small town Tennessee goin into Wal-Mart and BAM, guy picks you off from 300 yards, with a good scope....I honestly think that gun violence would increase dramatically for that purpose so would the murder rate, as people would be getting shot with 00 buckshot at point blank instead of a 9mm with no stopping power.

Good luck in your endeavor, I WILL still carry regardless.
And they can get my guns out of my cold dead lifeless fingers God help them that try. And I am serious....

BTW if they ban handguns, do handgun manufactures get paid due to the cahnge in law? honest quistion

There will never be a handgun ban. Just be mindful of who you vote for (currently GWB is the only candidate in support of our second amendment rights). While I don't feel he is the best choice for president, as I have to consider all aspects of his presidency. I will not vote for someone that will trade a lot of freedom for a little (false) security.

Hey Jimmy Dean and Matt, you guys are great. But.....all we need is Hillary and a stacked supreme court and we are finished. We sent hunting rifles to England during WWII because they didn't have enough rifles due to their advanced society. I believe they dumped them at sea after we won the war.

O.K. I have read every post in this series, and just have to remark. If handguns are outlawed, people will still be murdered, wether by a rock, or the jawbone of an ***. I find it interesting that no-one here has any experience with being shot? I have. It is NOT a pleasant experience. I now own guns. I can assure you, if you break into my house when I am home, you will get a severe, and I hope fatal, case of lead poisoning. I don't care who is coming in, Hilary or Mother Teresa. If they are uninvited, I'm launching some .45's. No questions asked. (Until the police show up) I don't carry concealed in public, but feeling as I do, perhaps I should. But in my own house, no-one, and I mean no-one, is going to make it past the door with bad intentions. Extreme? Maybe. Justified? Absolutely.

I prepared a paper on gun control a few years ago. While debating the topic with a relative (one should not discuss politics with family) she asked me about relative crime in the US compared to othe countries. Statistics from the National Institute of Health indicate that the US has a murder rate which is about three times higher than that of Japan. The numbers I pulled from their website are for murders in the US committed without the uses of a firearm. Weapons ranged from autos (keep in mind the definition of murder), bats, poisons, knives, etc.

camo4stealth you do bring up a point I forgot. I'm pretty sure that in all states, even those that don't allow law-abiding citizens to defend themselves with handguns, have 'justified homicide' laws. That means that the use of deadly force in self defense is legal in certain situations (primarily murder, rape, or kidnapping). Some states (Idaho, if I am not mistaken) also have laws that prevent you from being sued civilly by the shootee or their relatives.

Frankly, I never understood the anti's way of thinking. If I were confronted with someone intent on doing me or mine harm, I'm not going to lay down and be a good victim or a good witness. I find the very concept repulsive. Such an attitude only serves to embolden criminals and encourage criminal activity.

On the other hand, if I were a low-life, I would sure think twice about threatening a citizen if I thought they might be packing a concealed handgun. I'd have to need drug money pretty bad to risk getting killed for it.

Like I said, I'm all for taking guns out of the hands of criminals. But fer cryin' out loud, find a way to do it that doesn't infringe upon the rights of law-abiding citizens.

Camo, start packing that .45! I take my pistol with me EVERYWHERE I go. If a situation ever arose that I needed it and didn't have it with me I'd be kicking myself for the rest of my life (that is if I lived through it). After a couple months of carrying I didn't even notice the pistol any more. When I get up in the morning I put my wallet in my back pocket, phone in my right pocket, and gun in my holster. It's always there no matter what. The chances of us being attacked at home is nowhere near the chances of encountering trouble out on the streets. I may carry the damn thing my whole life and never have to pull it out once. It's insurance I'm willing to carry though.

As a cop I think every non-felonious citizen should have a gun. Several in fact.

Approaching a car at night - only a fool would act if the occupants weren't armed because ownership was against the law. In fact that would make me more concerned.

The violent crime rate has dropped relative to the amount of CWP's issued.

I was talking to two English citizens yesterday and they told that their crime rate was climbing, violent acts against police officers was on the rise and there are still plenty of guns on the streets.

Gun control will only affect the law abiding citizen anyway...

Ask to reflect on history - What did Hitler do. He disarmed the citizens first... Don't say it can't happen in your life time either - Hitler's actions were not so long ago!

DougD makes a valid point. Also an armed populace makes a land invasion a lot less likley. In my part of the world if an invasion force would come down the street, you would have about every one in town on the roofs with every gun they had.

Yeah, isn't that how they entrapped Randy Weaver? The Feds conned him into cutting down a couple of shotgun barrels.

When England banned private storage of guns, the burglary rate jumped 400%, IIRC. And the burglary rate in Switzerland, where every male between 18 and 50, IIRC, has to keep an assault rifle and ammo in his house is almost non-existent.

An armed society is a polite society.

King Triton.
I must admit I did not read all the posts because the well versed and common sense replies were redundant in negating your unsubstantiated views. In my opinion, your anti-gun thoughts weren't worth .02 cents. Whether I have a firearm with a long barrel or a short barrel, if someone breaks into my home with the thought to do me or my family harm, any Liberal law be damned, may the Lord have little mercy on his soul. Just my .02 cents worth..

wow having longer guns. thats like telling people to not lift their trucks. TERRIBLE solution. Very superficial. Its not attacking the root of violence anyways.
