I have been searching the self-service yards for months now, checking out Ford rears for a traction Lock set-up. I have probably looked at 300 vehicles with no luck. Are these extremely rare? Were they only an option, or did Ford make a lot of these? Plus, even on the open carriers, Ive never seen higher gears than 3.50. Maybe I just have to look at another 300 vehicles, I dunno.
I have found them in vans, trucks and full size cars. The cars and the vans all had 28 spline set ups and some trucks could have 28 spline as well. Most 31 spline trac locs that I've found have been in 4X4 trucks.
I have only found one 3.70 gear myself. Mostly 3.50 gears and a few 3.25.
my 78 F150 came with 4.10's and T-lock. so steaper gears are out there. I've had no luck finding a 3.50 geared 9" since i've been hunting one. 3.00:1 seems to be the common found in my case.
3.00 is very common. I found two of them today and one had the trac loc in it. I just hope it's still there next Saturday when I go back to get it. There was no one there to cut it out for me today.
What I should have said about the 3.50 gears is I have found more of them with trac locs than any other gears.

Do you really mean all or that these are the most common vehicle that this set up is found in. Saying that all of them came with 3.50 gears and Trac Lok would be misleading information. My 82 bronco has an open carrier and 3.00 gears. Also, Ford started using the 8.8 in 83 or 84, as well as the 9.
My '69 Bronco 9" came with 3.50 and Track Loc, and I believe 28 spline axles. It is a big-bearing small-housing axle. Sounds like you might be better off just buying a gear set and a limited slip or locker of your choice, from a time and frustration standpoint, plus you get brand new parts instead of old, questionable ones.
You are right, after more research I see that the Bronco from 78-84 1/2 had the 9", 31 spline, 3 07, 3 50 or 4 10 open or trac lok options.
all 4 bronco's I have owned ( 2 1978's, a 1980 and a 1982) all had trac lok and 3:50 gears so I made an assumption that I should have checked on first.
