transmission cooler

Is any one aware if there is a trans and oil cooler available from ford for the V10. If there is, with what option package?

Also, has anyone put LT305/70R16 on their truck
that has 3.73 rear end. Are there any problems with this combo?

Towing package is standard on all Super Duty's, I was told by a dealer that it includes the transmission cooling lines.

If you look between the a/c condenser and the radiator you'll see a cooler approx 2' in length and 1' wide. That is the tranny cooler. The oil cooler is built into where the oil filter screws on. Two small hoses circulate coolant around the oil passage. The larger tires will zap some power with the 3.73's. Be sure to re-cal the speedo.

In addition to the big oil-to-air cooler mentioned above, you should also have an oil-to-water cooler located in the bottom (cold) tank of your main radiator.

The LT305/70R16 tires are about 33" diameter vs 31.7" for the stock tires -- about a 4% difference.

Your speedometer and odometer will be low by this amount. The transmission shifting will be somewhat affected, and the rear-end ratio will drop to an effective 3.58.

This tire is designed for a rim width of 8-9"; the stock SD rims are 7".

I've ran Goodyear Wrangler ATS's, P305/70R16, for about 30,000 miles. I run them at 32 PSI for commuting, and 45-48 PSI for towing. They ride great, look great, and I've had no problems with them. There seems to be a little increased wear in the center portion of the tire, but not enough to worry about. The downside of these tires: Goodyear does not recommend putting them on a 7" rim (I called before I bought them) and they are expensive (I paid $150 minus $88 trade-in for the stock Firestones). You are also at the mercy of the tire compnay's balancer. My truck has a 3.73LS, and it tows my 7,000 trailer very well, returning about 12 MPG using a uncorrected speedo. My lease is up in Mar00, and I will probably transfer the tires to the new truck, since I expect to receive Firestones on the new one, and my spare 305 only has about 80 miles on it. Overall, an outstanding tire.

I've put over 45,000 miles on a set with my 94 Chevy 1500 4X4 and never had a problem. I also used the stock Chevy rims. I'm not sure of their rim width if 7" or 8". Did you replace your rims also?

I kept the 7" rims because anything comparable (forged aluminum 3000+ lb. rating) were going to be at least $200 each. Even though Goodyear advised against it, the tire dealer said "we do it all the time". My choices at the time were between the P305 Goodyear, and a P295 BFG All-Terrain. I knew from the truck I traded in that BFG's rode hard. They also said that Goodyear took them (and other tire dealers) to their proving grounds and turned them loose in a mud pit with idenical Z71's (except for tires) and the Wrangler ATS's whipped the competition (including BFG's). Which pretty much has equalled my experience with their outstanding traction. What I'm really waiting for is some 35" Wrangler ATS's!
