I installed a 6a and TFI coil on mine a year or two ago. I didn't notice any improvement over stock. I can think of better things to do with $200. Install is a breeze, maybe 20 minutes.
If you have a stock application, you probably won't notice much - maybe smoother idle and a little better throttle response. With some modifications that require mor revs or more fuel, it'll probably make a difference.
Easier starts, Smoother throttle response, Smoother Idle, AND I gained about 2 MPG average over several tanks full. Installation is a breeze and with gas at $1.50 a gallon it will pay for it self in no time.....
Same as ftwfred. I've had mine for two years and have had no problems. It won't make some huge difference - especially on a stock engine, but it is notable. Shop around for the box. The adapter makes the connection a lot cleaner and easier.
I felt a larger difference with the tfi blaster2 coil than anything, I didn't notice anything from the box, I just put it in their to switch from my F-250 351. I wouldn't buy it except for looks, I didn't feel anything and I do a lot of towing.
Have had a 6A for a few years now, with a Mallory dist, [only aftermarket I could find!], and the only problem I had was the MSD Blaster coil went bad. [keep the old coil in the old tool box!!] They replaced it, even though it was over warranty time. After replacing Ford's "Better idea" ignition system <stupid thing would buck, snort, and basically run like moose do-do when ever it rained/mist>, I not only got better performance, I went from 15/16 mpg to 18/19 mpg. That works out to appox. $3.25 per tank @ $1.619 a gallon. OH YEA, it has payed for it self, and then some. Running a '82 F-100 300 L-6 w/stock 1bbl and exahust, SROD 4 speed <.82OD> and 2.75 rears. {She came with 232ci V-6, Tremec 3 speed, BOTH are now enjoying a new life as some other hunk of metal!}
I just did the HEI / duraspark conversion to my '86 300 and I couldn't be happier. It all cost ( Including a rebuilt dizzy & Accel TFI coil) $120.00. It's well worth the bucks and it works great.
nastruk95 what do you mean "better idea"?
YEARS ago, that was Ford's advertising slogan. I am getting to old in some regards!
The reason I replaced My ign. was for the fact that every time it rained, or even a lite mist, the trk would sputter and cut on and off. My only option was a total transplant. I aquired the box, coil, and Mallory dist from PAW in Calif. Installing was a breeze. If you know the difference between a Cresant wrench and a box/open end wrench, you can install of the parts in one afternoon. The coil requires only two wires to be modify'd, and the box has 5 <or 6 depending on your application>, two of them being the Hot and Ground. Hope this helps.
