What year is your truck? My '90 doesn't need the tool to remove the fuel lines from the filter. There's these little "U" shaped plastic inserts that hold the lines in place. My fuel filter comes with new clips. The lines on my pumps are also the same. Only need the tool for the fuel-rail.
on the drivers side underneath on the frame is the fuel filter, upon looking at it it seems that ford uses these circular springs and you have to uses either these plastic inserts or this metal scissors looking tool to slide underneath the circular spring housing. i bought this plastic set and was trying it but it would not budge as i did not want to use to much force and break them off, im going to go back and purchase the metal scissors looking tool and try that....... hopefully this works as when i tried the small round inserts it seemed i had to use alot of force to get it in there....... it has never been changed (88000 way overdue)so hopefully thats why it so hard.....
You should be able to get the inserts that fit into the lines at the same place that you get the tool. After they have been on that long, they probably will have taken a set and won't have any holding power anymore. I believe they're 3/8".
yeah i got the tools (the little plastic jobbies) but it deffinately still has a real good hold. i was going to mess with it more but i ran out of daylight. i got the rest of the tune-up dome though cap, rotor, plugs and wire, all i got left is just the fuel filter, pcv and this mystery part i discovered today on the back of the motor( got to consult the manual as i have no idea what it is but its broken )
