My motorcraft 2 barrel in my 1977 f250, 400 has no power of the line. Stalls. It looks like the linkage for the accelerator pump is too short and the pump is always in the "in" position. The linkage isn't pushing the pump "out". Maybe somehow the carb was changed and linkage not. I don't know. Could I unbend the linkage to make it longer? Any help?
I don't remember exactly what that one looks like. You could go to the parts store when they aren't busy and ask to look at a replacement or find another truck to compare it to. Then you would know if you have the right parts and if they are bent or not.
The rod should be attatched to a spring on the throttle shaft which pushes it back when the throttle is released. Maybe either the spring has come off of the pump lever or it has broken.
thanks jimmy,
i just fixed it. my buddy looked at it and knew right away. i changed the pump (FROM ANOTHER CARB), HOUSING AND ALL. AND THE ARM ON THAT PUMP WAS DIFFERENT. SO A LONGER LINK WOULD HAVE WORKED. I JUST PUT THE OLD PUMP BACK ON WITH NEW GUTS AND IT'S GREAT. THANKS ALOT
