Edelbrock Accelerator Pumps?

Edelbrock Accelerator Pumps?
I know what an accelerator pump is for, but is there a jet (or other mechanism)at the bottom of the pump chamber to inject the fuel into the intake that bypasses the jets?
It seems my pupm is working (on the bench) as far as linkage goes, but during the test, fuel was bypassing the plunger itself?
If there is, and it is clogeed, what is the best way to clean it?

There should just be a passage from the bottom of the pump well over to the center of the carb where the squirter nozzle is on the primary side. Perhaps the rubber seal on the plunger isn't soft enough and not sealing right.
